Your input and views are very important at this time in providing us with feedback on the value and impact of the RDS. We would very much appreciate if you could please:
Your input will provide important evidence for the business case to Scottish Government for long term delivery of the Right Decision Service. Currently the RDS is funded as a key objective within the Digital Health and Care Delivery Plan and Data Strategy for Health and Care to achieve national scale-up by March 2025. Healthcare improvement Scotland will be presenting the business case for delivery of the RDS from April 2025 onwards to Scottish Government by the end of September 2024.
Redesign of the Right Decision Service homepage, browse and search capabilities is progressing. Current work is focusing on enabling quicker access to favourite toolkits and to toolkits belonging to individual health boards or other organisations. The search capability is also being reconfigured, including making it easier to search for toolkits as well as for pages of content.
Other developments in progress include:
A few examples of toolkits published to live in the last month include:
Some of the toolkits the RDS team are currently working on:
These toolkits are not yet published on the RDS and are currently password-protected while they undergo testing. Please contact his.decisionsuppory@nhs.scot if you would like to learn more about a toolkit. The RDS team will put you in touch with the relevant toolkit lead.
We are on-track to deliver the upgraded, UK CA marked gentamicin and vancomycin calculators at the same time as completing migration of local antimicrobial prescribing guidelines from the old standalone app to the new RDS platform by 3rd April 2024.
The RDS Learning Opportunities Working Group is developing a “Train the trainer” suite of resources for existing and new RDS editors. This will cover the full development process, from project initiation through to implementation and ongoing maintenance.
We are also holding webinars for existing and potential new editors on the following dates:
These webinars will be an opportunity for:

Ann is following up with all respondents to the quality audit questionnaire to address gaps and areas of clarification. All respondents are then asked to create an “About this toolkit” section providing summaries of their responses.
Please be aware that it is not advised to directly compare toolkit-level statistics in the old standalone apps and in the RDS. The two platforms have very different structures making direct comparisons problematic. As one example, you are likely to have more false positives for the old setup (accidental openings etc) than you would for the new one.
These projects will build our understanding of approaches that support effective implementation of digital apps for shared decision-making and self-management.
